Federal authorities seized about 16.5 tons of cocaine at the Packer Avenue Terminal Port along the Delaware River. Officials claim the drugs seized have a value over $1 Billion US Dollars, making it one of the largest drug bust in US history.

Agents found the drug shipment inside the shipping containers aboard the MSC Gayane, a ship that had previous stops in Chile, Panama and the Bahamas. After Philadelphia the container ship was due in Europe in ports in France and the Netherlands.
The crew has been arrested and charged with federal drug trafficking. The seized cocaine was brought to an undisclosed location for further testing.
Philadelphia has a long ongoing and current battle with drugs flooding the streets there.
